Is NLP Or Hypnosis Better? – What’s The Difference?

Often compared with the other, Is NLP or Hypnosis Better? is a question that has come up in psychology. This article will discuss the major differences between these psychological approaches and how they relate.

What Is NLP?

NLP- Neuro Linguistic Programming is an approach to personal development, life coaching, psychotherapy, and communication.

Created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder (and others), this approach involves studying strategies used by successful people and applying them to become successful.

This theory assumes that every human action is positive. If something unexpected happens or a plan fails, that doesn’t mean the experience is good or bad. It just simply gives you more information moving forward.

This means that every outcome comes from a thought process, language, and patterns of behavior gotten from experience.

What is Hypnosis?

Although often described as a sleep-like state, hypnosis is a state of focused attention, and heightened suggestibility.

On the surface, a person in a hypnotic state may seem sleepy and zoned out, but in reality, they are in a state of hyper-awareness.

Hypnosis is used in individuals with chronic pain or to alleviate pain and anxiety caused by medical procedures such as surgery or childbirth. It provides a feeling of extreme relaxation or a sense of detachment in different people. Other people remain fully aware and can carry on a conversation while in a hypnotic state. While others feel they have no awareness of the usual things happening around them.

Is NLP or hypnosis better?

The reality is neither of them is better than the other.

They are different approaches that involve a lot of different techniques. NLP is essentially a mentality or a system for extracting or modeling success.

NLP was created as a model or way of looking at what successful people were doing and trying to extract their internal reality of how they did things to teach it to other people and get the same success.

Richard Bandler and John Grinder began by studying many different therapists in the beginning.
One of those therapists, a doctor named Milton Erickson, was an expert in hypnosis.

They looked at hypnosis and his application of it and saw he was getting great success with it. The NLP founders went ahead to create a model of the framework of how Erickson worked so that they could use those techniques in different contexts.

Hypnosis is an entirely different approach. It is a group of techniques and a process by which you can induce an altered state of consciousness in an individual or themselves to see changes.

The NLP technique often employs hypnosis as a tool within its system. One of the founders of the NLP technique, Richard Bandler, preferred using hypnosis for better results.

So, it is odd to ask which approach is better. Since both systems often employ techniques from the other for better results.

In Conclusion: My Recommendation

If you are searching for ways to be the best at what you do, or perhaps you are looking for some personal changes, my recommendation is to find and learn as many different skill sets and techniques as you can to be able to get from where you are to where you want to be.
